Important information regarding confidential student data

There is ongoing litigation between the California Department of Education and the Concerned Parent Association. A notice issued by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson states, “The lawsuit accuses CDE of widespread, systemic non-compliance by local educational agencies with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504. The CDE denies these allegations and is actively defending the litigation.”

The court has ordered CDE to release student and parent information to provide personally identifiable information (PII) – an act that can only be taken as an exception to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). As a result, we are providing notice of the court order and directions to anyone wishing to object.

Please be advised that CDE will notify parents or students of whom are required to disclose information and those individuals may object directly to the court regarding this disclosure using the PDF link below:

Youth Mental Health First Aid
training will be available on the TPAA campus on Saturday, April 9, 2016 (8:30am - 4:30pm).

Below is some information on the content of the training:

"Many students suffer in silence before dropping out of school or falling victim to addiction, homelessness, suicide, or other tragic outcomes due to unrecognized mental health challenges. Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) Training can help school staff and community members provide early help by linking students to appropriate resources. YMHFA is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age twelve to eighteen) who is experiencing a mental health or addiction challenge or is in crisis."

If you are interested in attending the free training, please contact Ms. Price at Space is limited. Reservations will be granted on a first come, first serve basis.

Parent Survey Information

The purpose of this survey is to obtain parent perceptions of school climate as they relate to student well-being, opportunities, and learning. The survey is a companion to the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS), a comprehensive student health risk and resilience assessment tool (grades 5, 7, 9 & 11) and the California School Climate Survey (CSCS) for staff. All parents are given the opportunity to participate, regardless of which grades are being surveyed among students. Participation is voluntary. It is also very important. The information provided will help guide district and school efforts to promote safety, enhance learning supports, improve student achievement, and reduce health risks that stand as barriers to learning. This is an anonymous survey. It is designed so that participating parents/guardians cannot be identified from the data. All questions apply to this school only. The results are for the use of your district. CDE/CHKS will preserve data confidentiality and refer any data requests to the district.

Below is the link and the school code parents need to take the survey.
