Mental Health Resources
Elementary School
Support for our community extends beyond the classroom.
The Academy is committed to supporting the mental health and well-being of its students through comprehensive, proactive measures. By leveraging partnerships with organizations such as Daybreak Health and the Wellbeing Center alongside school-based initiatives, we aim to create a nurturing environment where students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Here's How we Help
Mental Health Training and Education
Student Training Programs
The Academy offers tailored programs such as the Fentanyl Awareness Youth Challenge, Naloxone training, Hands-on CPR, and Managing Test Anxiety workshops to equip students with practical skills for navigating stress and substance use risks.
Parent and Family Education
Regular workshops and resources, such as the Outreach Mental Health Toolkit and Substance Use Disorder sessions, empower families to support their children’s well-being.
Staff Professional Development
Training sessions for educators and staff focus on identifying signs of mental health challenges, including anxiety, stress, and depression, implementing restorative practices, and promoting a positive school climate.
Proactive Outreach and Events
Schoolwide Initiatives
Events like the “Wellbeing Center Tabling Days” and Mental Health Awareness Week provide opportunities to foster a culture of openness and destigmatize conversations about mental health.
Targeted Campaigns
Public health ambassador programs and peer-led initiatives ensure students take an active role in shaping the mental health discourse.
Wellbeing Center
The Academy’s Wellbeing Center serves as a hub for mental health resources, including:
- Walk-in support for students experiencing stress, anxiety, or crises.
- Scheduled mindfulness activities, wellness workshops, and peer-support groups.
- Services provided by trained professionals, including Department of Public Health nurses.
Data Driven Decision Making
In partnership with Daybreak Health
Our district has partnered with Daybreak Health, a school-based mental health company, to offer 1:1 teletherapy services for students and their families, with qualified clinicians at no cost to families.
If a student is experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, or stress, they can be referred to the program. Once referred, the student will:
- Complete an intake appointment
- Be matched with a qualified therapist based on their individual needs
- Begin weekly 50-minute sessions over Zoom (typically for ~12 weeks)
Therapy sessions are available before, during, or after school, including Saturdays, and focus on helping students understand their emotions, build coping strategies, and learn new skills to manage their symptoms that they can use in class, at home, and throughout their life.
If your child could benefit from virtual mental health support click here to make a referral, or reach out to your school counselor, for more information.
Community Partnerships
Our comprehensive Student Mental Health and Well-Being Plan is designed to meet the diverse needs of our student population. Partnering with the community in the following ways, ensures that every student has access to the tools and resources they need:
- Connecting students to the latest resources and best practices in mental health care through collaborations with organizations like the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and Daybreak Health.
- Partnering with local agencies to provide additional support for substance use prevention, youth advocacy, and family education.
This holistic approach not only enhances academic success but also cultivates a supportive and inclusive school community.
