Actions Parents Can Take to Ensure Their Child’s Safety and Prevent Bullying at School

Explain what bullying is and its different forms (physical, verbal, cyberbullying, etc.) and teach them how to recognize signs of bullying in themselves and others.

Encourage your child to treat others with kindness and respect and discuss the importance of standing up for peers who are being bullied.

Maintain regular contact with teachers, counselors, and school administrators and report any incidents of bullying immediately to the appropriate school authorities.

Keep an eye on their social media use and online interactions and educate them about safe and responsible internet use.

Promote participation in clubs, sports, and other extracurricular activities to build a supportive network of friends and volunteer for school events to stay connected with the school community.

Help your child develop strategies for handling conflicts peacefully and assertively and role-play different scenarios to practice responses to bullying.

Demonstrate positive behavior and respectful communication in your own interactions and show how to handle disagreements calmly and respectfully.

Encourage your child’s interests and strengths to build their self-confidence and praise their efforts and achievements to reinforce their sense of self-worth.
