The Business Services Department oversees the financial and operational functions that support the day-to-day and long-term needs of the Academy. Our responsibilities range from accounts payable and purchasing to payroll and financial reporting. We take our stewardship of public funds seriously and conduct all business with integrity, accountability, and transparency.

The Business Services department supports the Academy’s mission by ensuring that financial and operational resources are managed effectively and responsibly. Through sound budgetary management and strong internal controls, we create an environment where students can thrive academically.

Services Offered

Fiscal Services

Fiscal Services provides accurate, timely, and reliable financial information to school leadership, the board of directors, and oversight agencies. These services support informed decision-making and ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.

We also develop and produce the district budget and other financial documents along with associated state and federal reports. With an objective of safeguarding the district’s resources, we perform other professional accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.

Payroll

Payroll is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of employee compensation in compliance with applicable labor laws, collective bargaining agreements, and state reporting requirements. This includes processing regular and supplemental payrolls, ensuring correct salary placement, deductions, and retirement contributions, and coordinating with Human Resources to maintain accurate employee records.

Payroll also ensures compliance with CalSTRS, CalPERS, and other statutory reporting and remittance requirements.

Purchasing

Purchasing is a service-oriented function focused on the responsible and strategic acquisition of goods and services needed to support instruction and operations. The department is committed to ethical practices, fiscal responsibility, and the protection of public funds while obtaining the best overall value for the Academy.

All deliveries for purchased goods are received, processed, and distributed through the Academy’s warehouse to ensure proper inventory control, accountability, and internal oversight.

Purchasing responsibilities include:
